Foreign Drivers & The Law

Complex rules govern how, and for how long, drivers from other countries are permitted to drive on their own licence. This is an area which often presents difficulties to the police and, in our experience, we have found that the police have often given “foreign” motorists false advice. We would therefore encourage anyone faced with an allegation that they have driven otherwise than in accordance with their licence entitlement to consult a motoring expert. Driving in contravention of the terms of your licence is a serious matter, which may, in extreme circumstances, lead to you driving without insurance.

The situation is even more complicated with the recognition of disqualifications from England and Wales in some European States. It is therefore essential to find out, if you have been disqualified, whether this will transfer to your home State.

At Olliers motorlaw, we will be able to offer comprehensive advice in relation to the rules that apply to you and the licence from your home country. We will guide you through the complex legislation so that you know the situation as it applies to you.
